In Wallowa County the cowboy culture is alive and thriving. Don’t be surprised if you are setting in a restaurant enjoying your lunch, when a cowboy in full ranch gear rides up on his horse, dismounts, and ties up to a tree so he can join his friends at the next table to swap stories.
You may also be amazed to find your car backed up in the middle of a cattle drive on a major Wallowa County road. Just relax, and drive on slowly. Remember, this is cattle country, but they’ll make room on the road for you too.
Cattle ranching and Agriculture are the heart of Wallowa County. There are many small to large ranches active in the county today. Crops vary from oats, grass and alfalfa hay, mint and even potatoes to name a few.
Our Cowboys work hard and play hard. There are several rodeos during the summer months. Joseph Days brings parades, bucking stock stampede thru town, dances, the Nez Perce Encampment and the famous Joseph Days Rodeo.
Enterprise provides excitement for everyone with the Mountain High Broncs & Bulls. A rough little event showing off the cowboy skills. And Hell’s Canyon Mule Days. Where there is never a dull moment”.
Our country kids enjoy showing off their skills at the Wallowa County Fair in Enterprise and the Joseph Junior Rodeo at the Joseph Rodeo grounds.
