Enterprise is the location of our county seat where you will find our historic courthouse which was constructed in 1909 out of local volcanic Bowlby stone, which was quarried nearby.
Enterprise sets in a lush green valley with panoramic views of the stunning Wallowa Mountains. There are many trailheads leading into the remote Eagle Cap Wilderness. Stop by the Wallowa-Whitman Forest Service visitor’s center next to the Rama Inn for brochures and lots of friendly, helpful information, and sweeping views of the valley.
You will be able to find a variety of lodging, fine restaurants, grocery stores, and shops as well as a DMV, the new Wallowa Memorial Hospital, schools, a car dealership, repair shops and a public library.
If you like to golf, the scenic Alpine Meadows Golf Course offers 9 holes with beautiful views. There are many activities for everyone in the family. If you want to get back to the old west, visit the Antique Tractor show, Plowing Bee, Hell’s Canyon Mule Days, Wallowa County Fair, the Broncs and Bulls Rodeo and the Old Time Fiddler’s contest to name a few.
Into the arts? There are poetry readings, Fishtrap, amateur theatre, literary and political groups, workshops, talent shows, dances and many other events offered by clubs and organizations. You can also visit Parks Bronze Foundry for a guided tour.
Enterprise was first called Bennett Flat by the early settler’s. Later, Franklin, then Wallowa City and finally Enterprise in 1887. The Nez Perce used to gather in the Enterprise area to camp and their name for the location was, “Tom-mah-talk-ke-sin-mah” which means “white, fluffy, or alkali soil.
