Rural Wallowa offers country living at its best. The town is family oriented, with many activities centered around its school and children.
Wallowa sets near the mouth of a canyon which offers a fine trailhead for hiking or riding into the Eagle Cap Mountains.
If you like to fish the Wallowa River flows past town and affords excellent fishing.
For a small town, Wallowa has an active economic-growth team and city council. This is a very family oriented town, with an excellent school. The Wallowa History Center is located here and houses historical artifacts from Lostine, Troy, Flora, Promise, Maxwell, Bartlett and Wallowa areas.
Wallowa is also home to the annual Tamkaliks Native American Celebration and the Nez Perce Trail Interpretive Center. The Tamkaliks hold their celebration with a potluck feast of salmon and game meats served by Native Americans, with dancing a parade and much more.
There are several fun restaurants, gift shops, and a nice motel as well as an RV park just outside of town. Don’t forget their big 4th of July bash.
